It’s not uncommon for Native American courses to have hole names and features paying homage to Indian lore and legend. Sweetgrass Golf Club, a 36-hole amenity of Island Resort and Casino in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, is no exception. Hole names include “Legend of the Snowbird”, “The Firekeeper”, “Michigami” and “Eagle” (or “Ke no” in the native language). The eagle is sacred to native people. From their perch, eagles watch over the tribe and serve as messengers between the Creator and the tribe. The wooden carving shown in this image is located by the 13th green at Sweetgrass Golf Course.
